Garbage and Recycling Guidelines

Garbage is collected twice per week (Monday and Thursday) at the curbside (edge of pavement). Please be aware that there are exceptions for certain holidays.

Separate garbage from vegetation, drain all non-hazardous liquid, wrap or bag and place in watertight containers made of metal or plastic, not more than 42 gallon capacity having handles and tight fitting covers. Please keep all containers grouped together and place at curbside on collection day. Dangerous items that could injure a collector include, but are not limited to, fluorescent tubes, razor blades, light bulbs, broken glass, metal scraps, etc., and must be secured, properly wrapped, labeled and placed in clear view.

Recycling is collected once per week (Thursday) at the curbside. Items accepted for curbside recycling are listed below. Please note that corrugated cardboard larger than 3' x 3'; must be disposed of on your scheduled garbage or quarterly bulk item collection day. Cardboard is accepted at recycling drop-off centers.

Other Items & Notes

Glass - Clear, brown & green glass bottles and jars. Remove caps and lids and rinse.

Milk & Juice Cartons - Rinse carton and flatten.

Aluminum - Beverage cans, foil and pie plates.

Plastic Containers - Remove caps and lids and rinse. Plastics with a #1 thru #7 recycling symbol are acceptable.

Newspapers/Inserts - Place loosely in bin.

Magazines - Place loosely in bin.

Brown Paper Bags - Place loosely in bin.

Corrugated Cardboard - Look for waffle-like ridges. Flatten and place loosely in, on top of, or beside the bin. Must be broken down and no larger than 3' x 3' in size.

Telephone Books - Place loosely in bin.
 

Christmas Trees - 1st & 2nd Week of January. Place in swale area on scheduled vegetation collection day. Must be under 5 ft. Artificial trees are not accepted.

No Plastic Bags - Return to participating grocery stores for recycling.

No Steel Cans - Steel cans are magnetically separated from household garbage and recycled.

No Office Paper - Office paper is collected at recycling drop-off facilities.

All Materials shall be placed in the swale for collection no earlier than 7 p.m. on the day prior to the scheduled collection day and no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. All containers must be removed within 12 hours following collection.

Recycling bins are available for pickup Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the
Municipal Services Complex, Operations Building, 2500 NW 1st Avenue, call 561-416-3367 for directions to the Complex. Proof of residency is required. Please follow the separation guidelines when sorting recyclables into the blue and yellow bins.
